I recently heard of the story of Winifred and Cordelia, the dearest of friends that has ever existed. Their friendship began when they were both girls of 16, and in the years that followed they became nearly inseparable. At one such unfortunate occasion when they were forced to go separate ways, they made an oath to each other that a time would come when they would go on grand adventures together around the world. And that is exactly what they did.
After obtaining their undergraduate degrees from different institutions, Winifred and Cordelia continued their studies together. It was at this time that they met their future husbands, Earnest and Archibald, respectively. Earnest and Archibald were mature, dashing young gentlemen, who quickly swept our heroines off their feet in a whirlwind romance. They were also fabulously wealthy. In no time Winifred and Earnest and Cordelia and Archibald were happily married.
After they had been married for around 20 years, with their children gone off to college, Winifred and Cordelia knew it was time to accomplish their dreams and took their first class seats on a plane headed to Italy. As usual they were dress properly for the occasion, with broad-rimmed hats, lace gloves and strings of pearls.
In Italy they met some very helpful strapping young men, who happened to know English and helped them navigate the unfamiliar landscape. From Italy they travelled across the globe, eating crumpets, having tea time daily, playing croquet, pretending to be British, purchasing outrageously valuable masterpieces at art auctions, eating baguettes in France and doing lots of shopping, all using their husbands vast expanse of money. You see the best decision they ever made was to marry smart investors. Occasionally their dear friend Loretta would join them for tea, and their husbands also journeyed across the Atlantic once or twice to see their wives, but they had business to attend to in the States, and never stayed very long.
It is in this general manner that they are living still today. Their current project is starting foundation to aid individuals in the declutterization of their names. Should you ever happen to be traveling, keep your eyes peeled. You might just happen to run into Winifred and Cordelia... they will be easily recognized by their broad-rimmed hats.
